Te Tumu

Te Tumu is a $3.6M extension project for the School of Maori, Pacific and Indigenous Studies. Set within the heart of the University of Otago campus the building provides a large multi-purpose space for the teaching of Maori performing arts, along with seminar rooms, a kitchen and ancillary spaces. The dynamic curved form of the building makes a stong gesture to the 'Waters of the Leith' flowing nearby, and also establishes a stong sense of identity for the school. The use of cedar rainscreen cladding and frameless glazing contrasts with the predomintly concrete and plaster buildings on either side.
